Travel insurance is affordable, and it only costs $0.8 - $4 per day on average. It not only includes medical outpatient/inpatient and dental coverage, but also ambulance, maternity coverage, and trip interruption, etc. various coverage for a reasonable cost. It also includes emergency medical evacuation/repatriation.
You may be wondering "Do I need Travel Insurance?" when you travel? This depends if you are traveling domestically or internationally. If you are traveling within the United States and you already have an existing health insurance coverage from your current employer or business, the most important part is to check whether it is HMO, EPO, or PPO. PPO usually covers a wider network out side of your county and state. You always want to contact your insurance provider on such matter prior to your trip.
What if I am traveling to another country? In most cases, your insurance carrier will not cover any medical expense abroad. This is when you need to look into travel insurance to cover your destination.
Doing Extreme Sports? There is a different definition between recreational sports and extreme sports. If you are doing Scuba Diving, Snorkeling, Trekking, Safari, etc., these are considered extreme/hazardous sports and requires additional underwriting. Please check your travel/trip insurance plan to see if they are included or excluded.
What if I am traveling to the United States as a foreigner? (e.g. visiting USA on a B-1 visitor VISA). You will also need travel insurance since your local health insurance will unlikely to cover any medical expense occurs abroad. Usually you will purchase travel insurance locally prior to your departure, either at the airport, or a local insurance agent, or via a 3rd party that is affiliated with your travel agency. If you are traveling to the United States, we also offer travel insurance to you prior and after to your departure which opens another option for you to compare with your local travel insurance policy. Feel free to compare quotes and purchase from my website here.
What if I have already purchased travel insurance but it has expired or going to expire when you are abroad, and you have decided to extend your stay? First of all, you should contact the current travel insurance carrier to see if they can extend your coverage with additional fees. If not, then you should shop for local travel insurance as soon as possible before your current travel insurance expires. Feel free to lookup quotes or purchase from my website here.
If you are new immigrants to the United States, you could also utilize travel insurance as a gap insurance before you are qualified for local health insurance. In other word, while you are waiting for your permanent resident (green card) to be issued on a B1/B2 or other VISA, you can purchase travel insurance before you are qualified for Obamacare/Affordable Care Act qualified health plan in your local market.
